The Proteus Story
Planned by engineers, perfected by riders
At Proteus, our story starts with our love of riding the mountain in its entirety. It was then brought to life when we decided we no longer wanted to spend the money on individual boards designed for unique conditions or deal with the inconvenience of needing to switch boards for optimal performance.
Our founders’ engineering backgrounds and obsession with snowboarding led us to seek an alternative to a “quiver” of boards. Through years of rigorous design, testing, refinement, and uncompromising demands, we developed a board that can meet whatever challenges the mountain throws at us.
If we did not wholeheartedly believe our board was the best on the market, we would not be doing what we are doing. Ultimately, the “best snowboard technology” will not matter unless it performs on the slopes. As avid riders, we have put many boards to the test and can honestly say that these are the best we’ve ridden.
Built to perform, crafted to inspire
We are pushing the boundaries of what a snowboard can do, so that you can push the boundaries of your riding. Our primary focus at Proteus is always, “What is the best for the rider?” If we are not happy with what is available on the market, we go to the drawing board to see if we can do better.
Being avid snowboarders, we put ourselves in the boots of the rider and don’t quit working until we’re excited about what we’ve created. By selling directly to customers, we are able to provide riders with a fully customized product at a reasonable price.
Our mission is to get custom boards with uncompromising quality into as many rider’s hands as possible. Our desire is to continue to progress the industry, so we welcome any suggestions you have to improve our product or the industry as a whole.
John grew up riding the icy slopes in Minnesota, headed west for the big storms in Tahoe, and is now focused on making boards and getting that Rocky Mountain powder. He has ridden it all and has numerous broken bones and surgeries to prove it. Apparently, a mechanical engineering degree from Notre Dame does not teach risk management on the slopes.
Grant is a Colorado native and mechanical engineering graduate of the Colorado School of Mines. "He's a smart kid who needed to focus more on school instead of ditching class to go to the mountains." - His mother
These two nerds found a way to fuse their skills, passions, and professions in a way that will hopefully benefit the snowboarding community for years to come.
One board to rule them all
The Proteus Adjustable Camber System lets you “ditch the quiver” and still have the best board for the different conditions you face. It’s less expensive and more convenient.
Starting with high-performance, sustainable materials, we use a combination of precision manufacturing and skilled craftsmanship to deliver a quality board that will last for seasons to come.
