TIPS & RESOURCES FOR DESIGNING YOUR CUSTOM SNOWBOARD

Some helpful advice for your snowboard design.

QUICK TIPS

  • Only high-quality, original designs and artwork will be accepted (no copyrighted or trademarked work you don’t have permission to use)
  • The art and design will be covering a 13″ x 68″ area – so the artwork and designs need to scale enough to make sure the graphics don’t come out pixelated at least 300 ppi (unless of course, pixelation is your artistic choice)
  • Try to avoid placing important design features, text, logos, etc., around the mechanism, inserts, and edges – abstract designs work the best, but do you? It’s your board
  • Submit your design/art as a full rectangle (no board clips/outlines or pre-filled board shapes), and the preferred file format is .svg (vector) and .ai (Adobe Illustrator)

HOW TO DESIGN YOUR TOP SHEET

1. Download the Design Package

Grab the full design toolkit here. Inside, you’ll find a customizable Topsheet Template sized to 68” x 13” — your canvas for creativity.

2. Add Your Artwork on a New Layer

  • Keep your design on its own layer within the template.

  • Your artwork should fill the entire artboard (68” x 13”) — no borders or gaps.

  • The board outline, binding inserts, and camber mechanism in the template are just for reference — remove them before submitting.

3. No Need to Scale for Board Size

Design for the full template — we’ll scale it to match your board’s dimensions during production. Just focus on creating something awesome at full size.

4. Design Smart Around Inserts & Mechanism

  • Avoid placing key visuals near the center mechanism or binding insert zones — those areas will usually be covered by bindings or cutouts.

  • Think of your design as something meant to be seen from a few feet away — bold shapes, strong contrast, and clear visuals work best.

5. Use High-Quality Artwork

  • Vector graphics (like .AI or .SVG) are best.

  • Raster images must be high resolution: 300ppi preferred, but 72ppi minimum at full size.

  • Work in CMYK color mode for the most accurate print results (some bright RGB colors won’t translate well to print).

6. Add a Proteus Logo (Optional, but Cool)

The template includes a few Proteus logos you can drop into your design. Use them however you like — scale, recolor, or remix.

7. Tips for Standout Designs

  • Focus on bold visual identity — something that reflects your personal style or tells a story.

  • Use color intentionally — high contrast or complementary palettes stand out best in snow and on film.

  • Think about how your board will look in motion, on Instagram, or when leaned up in a lodge. Cool shapes and balanced composition matter.

It’s our base, but don’t call it basic.

Quick Tips:

  • All custom boards feature our customizable Proteus ISO3000 sintered base – not only is it fast, but you can choose whatever color scheme you want. Mirror your top-sheet, go crazy bright for righteous snow reflection…or keep it simp – it’s your board
  • We do not build blanks or boards with alternative bases – it’s fun to play with colors
  • You can also submit a simple graphic with clear hex codes for the base if you don’t want to build it out in Adobe Illustrator
  • We print and sublimate our bases in CMYK and try to stay true to your design’s colors – so try to design and submit in CMYK, as most digital design is in RGB, and those colors sometimes don’t translate as accurately to CMYK printers
  • Need inspiration? Browse some of our board designs to see what weird combos we’ve all come up with

Designing Your Base Graphic:

1. Open the Base Template File

  • Download the Design Package and locate the file labeled for base design.

  • This file includes the standard layout used on all Proteus boards — the layout and logo placement are fixed.

2. Choose Your Base Colors

  • You can fully customize the three main color zones on the base graphic.

  • Select your desired colors and write them as 6-digit hex codes directly on the template file.

  • Example: #1A1A1A for black, #FFFFFF for white, #FF0000 for red.

3. CMYK Color Reminder

  • Our bases are printed in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) — the industry standard for print.

  • Bright RGB colors (like neon greens or highlighter blues) may not print accurately.

  • Choose your colors from within the CMYK spectrum to get the most accurate print results.

4. Keep It Clean

  • Do not move or edit the base layout or logo position.

  • The only editable elements on the base are the colors.

5. Saving Your File

  • Save your base graphic file using this format:
    YourName-YourDesignTitle-Base-1.ai

  • If you’re submitting variations, continue with:
    YourName-YourDesignTitle-Base-2.ai
…and so on (up to 6 versions)

6. Submit With Your Topsheet File

  • Email your completed base file(s) along with your topsheet design to:
    [email protected]

  • You may attach the files directly or provide a link to a cloud folder (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)

Do this, not that.

1. File Requirements
Each submission must include:

  • 1 topsheet design file

  • 1 base graphic file (for choosing your base colors)

Preferred File Format:

  • .ai (Adobe Illustrator)

Other Acceptable Formats:

  • .eps, .svg, .pdf, .jpg, or .png (minimum 72ppi at full size)

2. File Naming Format
Use this format for your file names:
YourName-YourDesignTitle-Top-1.ai
YourName-YourDesignTitle-Base-1.ai

If you’re submitting more than one variation:
YourName-YourDesignTitle-Top-2.ai
YourName-YourDesignTitle-Base-2.ai
(Up to 6 variations max)

3. Submitting Multiple Variations (Optional)

  • You can submit up to 6 topsheet + base combinations

  • Each variation must be in separate files

  • Submit all files together in a single email

4. Base Graphics Instructions

  • Open the Base Template file from the Design Package

  • Choose your base colors using 6-digit hex color codes

  • Write your color choices as text directly on the file over each of the 3 colored zones

  • Designs will be printed in CMYK color, so choose your colors accordingly (some bright RGB colors won’t print accurately)

  • Base layout and logo placement are fixed — only colors are customizable

5. Final Checklist Before Sending

  • Topsheet artwork fills the entire 68” x 13” template

  • Reference layers (board shape, inserts, mechanism) are removed

  • Files are high resolution or in vector format

  • File names follow the required naming convention

6. How to Submit Your Files
Email your design files or a download link (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) to:
[email protected]

Include in your email:

  • Your full name

  • Your design title

  • A short description of your design (20–40 words)

  • Whether you want your design to be public or private

Happy to build you a custom promotional board, but the board will still rip.

We’ve built snowboards for all kinds of occasions, wedding gifts, dispensary giveaways, resort christenings, gender reveals, and DJ booths. It’s your board, so do what you want with it. Just know we build our boards to the highest standards of riding and enjoying snow, we don’t make weak sh!t. So just because it’s going into the background of your YouTube channel doesn’t mean we’ll skimp on the materials; you can still shred every board we make. Every board still includes our adjustable camber mechanism on the topsheet and our Proteus logo template on the bottom.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…

You have a lot.

Top-Sheet

This is the graphic that is on top of your snowboard. You can customize this completely with your own designs, art, and dreams!

Base Colors

Here you can choose whatever colors you’d like to have on your Proteus base – which is the bottom of your board. Reinspire our Proteus template with a matching palette from your top-sheet design, go wild with bright colors that reflect off the snow, go nuts.

Length/Width

We have a diverse selection of lengths and wider sizes available for you to choose from: 148, 151, 154, 157, 157W, 159, 159W, 161, 161W, 163W, 165W

Flex

We have 4 flexes for you to choose from: flex, soft, standard, stiff.

Flex is our “softest” flex, and we recommend it for lighter riders or those who like a really “floppy” board

Soft adds a slightly heavier glass for increased stiffness and response compared to the flex, but still offers a lot of flex. Great for most riders, heavier riders or those who like stiff boards should consider a stiffer flex

Standard is our “go-to” flex. While it may trend a bit stiffer than some freestyle and park boards, the standard flex offers the perfect balance of response, hold, strength, and dampening.

Stiff is for those who ride hard and need a strong, reliable and responsive ride – or heavier riders who can butter the stiff stuff

Sidewall Text

Tag your work, or just say whatever. Custom text is placed on one side of the board in the middle of the sidewall (centered between the inserts/bindings)

Accessories

Want to add some extra wax, plugs, wrenches? Go for it.

Just the true twin for now, but our Adjustable Camber Tech does allow you to change shapes, so it’s like having 6+ boards in one…so that’s cool.

We are always looking to improve our technology and progress the overall riding experience. That’s why we are currently in the R&D stages of a directional, volume-shift, surfy, powder board. Our Sales & Marketing Director might have been a little pushy about getting this one in the works.

We’re also experimenting with more park-oriented materials and an extra-wide 154 for those park rats and metalcore types.

Sure.
